Fall racing events at Five Mile Point Speedway have become a favorite of the Pauch family. Billy Pauch, Jr. became the first family member to win at the historic quarter mile oval during the fall National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend. Pauch wheeled a 305 Sprint Car to the victory on that fall day. Last year Billy Pauch, Sr. collected his first ever victory at the speedway in the Tobias USAC SpeedSTR feature event which was of the American Racer Cup Weekend. On Saturday he backed that win up with another victory in that event. Billy Pauch, Jr. became the first of the duo to win in a Modified at the speedway by collecting the victory in the night cap 30 lapper.

After a busy afternoon of racing the evening racing program features were led off by the Tobias USAC SpeedSTR’s. Tim Buckwalter, Jr. was doing “double duty” as he was also running in the Modified division during the evening. For Buckwalter a sweep of the evening looked like a real possibility as he looked strong in both the SpeedSTR and Modified heat races. In the 30 lap feature Buckwalter jumped out to the early race lead and was dialed in on the quarter mile oval. The track was in perfect condition for the open wheel cars as they were using every inch of the speedway. Buckwalter was fast out front as defending race winner Billy Pauch, Sr. began to work through the field. It looked like the opportunity for Pauch to win in back to back years came to an end on lap 4. Pauch spun in turn 4 collecting the Joe Vaccaro, Jr. entry. Vaccaro would end up flipping over the nose of Pauch as his night would come to an end. For Vaccaro it ended a tough night at the speedway as he also flipped during his qualifying heat race and made repairs only to make it four laps in the A-Main. Pauch was able to pull away and restart at the rear of the field.

Out front Buckwalter continued to set the pace as all eyes were on Pauch as he made his advance utilizing the outer limits of the quarter mile oval. By the mid-way point of the race Pauch had made his way up to 8th place but had a lot of ground to make up on the leaders. A caution on lap 21 gave Pauch his opportunity to catch the leaders as the field was reassembled. On the restart Buckwalter continued to lead but Pauch made an unbelievable move to advance several spots finding himself in to second place by lap 23. Buckwalter still held the point as Pauch tried all routes around. On lap 27 Pauch made the winning pass and would go on to win on back to back years at Five Mile Point Speedway. The only three Tobias USAC SpeedSTR appearances at the speedway have been won by Richard Tobias, Jr. and Billy Pauch on back to back years. Buckwalter hung on for second with Tim Iulg, Frank Yankowski and Matt Janisch completing the top five.
