Smith Rallies Three Top-Fives in PA

Mandee Pauch Relations – August 20, 2019 –Ryan Smith highlighted three nights of racing last weekend with three top-five finishes in the Heffner Racing No.72 sprint car.

The team kicked off their three-day weekend at Williams Grove Speedway Friday night.

Smith started fifth in his heat race and drove through to finish second, which lined him up on the outside of the second row for the main event.

“We got to second with about 10 laps into the race,” he said. “We had a yellow with three to go. I was all over the leader; I just couldn’t stay close enough to him to pull a trigger on a slider without it getting risky.”

Smith felt it was the fastest the No.72 car had been at the Grove all year and is looking to come back this coming weekend and capitalize.

Saturday afternoon saw the team back at Lincoln Speedway for a draw show.

By luck of the draw, Smith rolled off sixth in his heat race. He maneuvered his way through the heat to finish in second-place.

Two dashes were held which determined the drivers starting spot for the main event.

Smith ran fifth in the dash, which lined him up fifth for the main event.

“We were up to third,” Smith noted. “We were right there with the guys up front. I got a little too greedy with my wing and made myself too tight. By the time I got back to the front I ended up finished fourth. I had a good car but made a couple of mistakes. We were in the hunt thought.”

Smith closed out Saturday night with a solid fourth-place finish.

The Heffner Racing team wrapped up their three-day weekend on Sunday at Trail-Way Speedway.

“We took the 360 car to a 410 show,” added Smith. “It was my first time running a sprint there, but I knew it was a pretty small track.”

Smith qualified third from his fifth-place starting spot in the heat, placing him into the top-12 redraw.

Smith rolled off on the outside of the fourth row for the main event.

“We got it dialed in for the feature and had gotten up to fifth when the rain came,” he said. “The rain forced the track to cancel the remainder of the race, so they cut it five laps short.”

It was a strong weekend for the Heffner Racing No.72 team with three top-five finishes.

Next on tap for the team will be a four-day weekend with the All Star Circuit of Champions in town. Smith will be at Grandview Speedway, Williams Grove, Lincoln, and BAPS Motor Speedway.

Heffner Racing would like to give a special congratulations to Billy Pauch Jr on picking up the 2019 Action Track USA USAC SpeedSTR Championship in the Heffner Racing No.72 SpeedSTR.
